I watched a NYTimes video on surgery to correct blindness. It seemed like the topic would be interesting, but the video dragged on. None of the shot angles were very creative--they were mostly medium shots straight on the subject. The colors were mainly gray and white, which didn't help the video. I've noticed colors a lot more since I've started color correcting the shots in my Obama video. They really improve with color corrector and the whole video looks less drab because of it.

I agree that the video dragged on a bit, but I feel the material was interesting enough to sustain my attention.
ReplyDeleteRegarding "creativity," I think the video's objective was purely informational and less artsy. It seems like the journalism most likely did all the work by finding the story, shooting and editing, so I appreciate all the work that probably went into making this 5 minute piece. I agree at times the colors were dark and drab--and perhaps the filmmaker could have shot interviews with better light sources--but of course that takes more time, effort, and money. Usually on projects such as these, that is a rarity.
